The Church Mission Society (CMS) was founded in 1799 by a group of activist evangelical Christians committed to three great enterprises: abolition of the slave trade, social reform at home, and world evangelization.
Throughout the many stages of its history, which includes founding about two-thirds of the churches in today's Anglican Communion, CMS has constantly adapted its mission. Fast-forwarding to the present, they have seen the growth of CMS Africa and Asia CMS and they soon hope to bring about a Latin American expression of CMS.
